What is floss? Why floss?

A nylon, PP, PE or synthetic thread, also available as a tape or foam-sponge on thread, is used to clean the crevices between individual teeth, where the toothbrush cannot reach and clean.

We know careful brushing alone is not sufficient for most teeth, simply because the bristles of the toothbrush cannot make contact and reach all parts or sides of teeth. The challenge to maintain good oral hygiene becomes even more difficult.

What is FlosSmile?

FlosSmile bases on:  your brushing and flossing activities every day, phenomena of human fingers, oral engineering, environmental safety, convenient of portability and ease of use.  With these several factors in mind, FlosSmile is created.

The patent of the design of FlosSmile was registered in Republic of China since November 21, 2005.  The trade mark of FlosSmile was registered in the  Republic of China since  October 31, 2007.

The patent of the design of FlosSmile was also registered in People’s Republic of China since July 25, 2006.

The US patent of the design of FlosSmile was registered since August 31 2007. And the trade mark of FlosSmile was registered in the United State of America since  Feburary 13, 2007.

The following descriptions are the essential concept of how our hands and fingers form a tight floss.

1. Base on your fingers:

Text Box: We use both index fingers to form tightened 10 ~ 30 mm floss as a thread scraper to remove the bacteria between two teeth. Actually we are using at least 4 fingers (plus 2 middle fingers) to form that section; the floss on both middle fingers usually is wasted, and sometimes cuts fingers or hard to reach the molar.

2. Base on your hand and index finger:

Text Box: If we only use our index finger with floss, it is impossible that we can reach all the way back to molar.
Ideally, two fingers with floss may reach molar if floss is held very tight on them, since floss can’t be held on one hand. That’s the reason why two hands with two index fingers holding 25mm section of floss as a scraper.
The basic design concept of FlosSmile: Floss is to be fixed on one hand with two fingers.
Benefit: Floss can easily reach the back as to molar.

3. Base floss on middle fingers:

Text Box: The floss wrapped around on the middle fingers works as tighten force and storage of new floss or used floss.
The FlosSmile design: Storage function and locking force mechanism for the floss are combined.
Benefit: No new floss is wasted.

4. Hand and finger design:

Text Box: The design of FlosSmile is based on your hand and finger to create a friendly and humanized product.

FlosSmile Design

Design:  A floss arm is created to be able to imitate hand and finger to form floss frame, which is what FlosSmile flossing device depends on.

Design:  The floss is wrapped around on the middle fingers, which works as tighten force or storage of new floss or used floss.

Floss arm design is based on oral engineering of American adult average scale dimension, so it is long enough to reach your every tooth.

How FlosSmile Works

Step 1: Push knob to the end toward the gear to comfortably loosen floss.  Each time you change floss or tighten floss you can count on it.

Step 2: After loosen floss, turn the wheel on gear clockwise 1 & 1/2 turn. When the gear wheel turns, the mechanism force help pull out new floss from floss wheel which locates in the clean close housing[nl1] [nl2] .

Step 3: Push slide knob back to the original position to lock up floss; turn the gear   clockwise until floss is properly fastened. Do not make it too tight.

Tips:

* Due to the mechanical benefits of force, new floss can be easily pulled out and tightened on hook.   But the floss will be hard to use if you turn it too tight.

* However, if you turn the floss too tight, you can slide the knob to loosen, and press the floss on the hook to ease floss’ tension, and then turn the gear easily.

Troubleshooting:

* If the floss breaks off from hook, retrack floss as above instructions step 1, 2, 3

* Rewind used floss to clear storage space.

* Fasten floss on the pickup block before cutting off used floss. (Looping an 8 shape of form on the block will be easy to lock floss on.)
